Computing Skills ~ Two Common Learner Problems Identified

Having been an active member of my local SeniorNet for a number of years, it has always seemed a shame that many of our members are limited to using only the software that was originally provided with their computer. They may be missing the enjoyment of a wide range of quality software that is available - often for free. This is often due to not knowing where to find such programs and to the uncertainties of downloading and installing programs from the internet.

In my ongoing role as a tutor, I have also come to appreciate the importance of regular practice and reinforcement at home between weekly lessons.

Two Solutions Offered

In order to provide a wealth of selected freeware programs, specially selected for those of us at an age where computing skills were not taught at school, The Best of Senior Years Freeware CD came into being. The 80+ programs on this disc cover a diverse range of interests, such as playing chess, learning French, creating a virtual garden, journeying through the galaxies and keeping track of our recipes. Each program has its own page displaying screen shots and general information, plus - most importantly - an install button which will allow you to easily install each program directly from the CD.

Senior Years Basics Tutorials, as the name suggests, is a CD containing many interactive tutorials covering popular learner topics such as correctly turning a computer on and off, managing your files and folders, word processing, printing, going online to access web sites and email, security & viruses explained, graphics & photographs, CD & DVD burning and various computer tips, trick & information.
